Purest White: A Revolution in Office Space Design

Transforming the Mundane into a Masterpiece of Minimalism

The Purest White project, a brainchild of Jingsi Peng and Xiaoyu Wu, was born out of a desire to revolutionize a cramped, oppressive office space. The designers' inspiration came from the need to create a smooth, clear, and functional workspace. They integrated concise methods into the existing spatial form, turning constraints into opportunities for innovation.

Despite a limited budget and a tight timeframe, the team successfully transformed the office space into a hub for clothing materials research and development. The design requirements were clear: the space had to be young, innovative, and creative. The designers responded by creating distinct areas for fabric display, visitor reception, and meetings, while ensuring that the majority of the space was dedicated to comprehensive office use, facilitating team discussions.

The design's unique properties lie in its simplicity and functionality. The ground uses engineering floor, the walls retain the original cement columns, and a white steel frame serves as a display unit. These elements not only save costs but also contribute to the minimalist aesthetic of the space. The office, located in Taizhou and covering a total area of 430 square meters, is a testament to the power of modern, open office design.

One of the key challenges the designers faced was introducing natural light into the space. They solved this by eliminating anything that blocked light and consolidating scattered areas into a single, cohesive space. The waiting areas and conference rooms are partitioned by walls, with gaps serving as outlets for light, adding dynamism to the waiting area.

The project, which started in December 2018 and was completed in February 2019 in Wuxi, was recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, and Purest White certainly fits the bill.
